Shoppers in the Rochester area will have the opportunity to contribute to Haiti relief efforts by shopping at One World Goods, a fair trade gift store in Pittsford Plaza, 3349 Monroe Ave.

Beginning next Friday, Feb. 19, through Feb. 28, the store will donate 20 percent of its total sales to the SERRV Haitian Relief program.

Fair trade organizations such as SERRV maintain relationships with artisans, providing a vital source of security during difficult times resulting from causes ranging from natural disasters to civil unrest. SERRV is currently providing a range of supplies to Haitian artisans, including tents, food, crank radios and flashlights, bed sheets, towels and soap. It plans to assist artisans in this early stage as much as possible, noting there is significant work ahead rebuilding workshops and replacing tools.

In addition to the contributions to SERRV, One World Goods will collect items for hygiene kits for Haitian earthquake survivors. The kits will be sent to Church World Service in New Windsor, MD. As part of the Emergency Response Program, they will be processed, shipped and immediately distributed to various relief centers aiding victims.

To help, bring new supplies only in any plastic or paper bag to the store from Feb. 19 to March 21. Needed are one each of a 16-by-18 inch terry hand towel, terry washcloth, wide-tooth comb, metal nail clipper, bath-size bar of soap, packaged toothbrush, six Band-Aids and $1 for shipping.
