John Mallaber of the Monroe Community College Public Safety Department announced that the departmental Outstanding Officer Award would be re-named the “Thomas M. Voelkl Outstanding Officer Award” at the former Brighton chief’s retirement party July 15. Voelkl is an MCC graduate.

The 2009 recipient of the award was the entire Public Safety Department for the tremendous amount of work and long hours that were necessary in achieving the recent peace officer certification. Voelkl was instrumental in making this transition a reality.
