The Rochester Orienteering Club will host an orienteering meet on Saturday, July 14, at Mendon Ponds Park, 95 Douglas Road, Honeoye Falls, starting from the beach area.

Participants will be given maps of the park with key locations noted. They must “punch in” these locations, and race to the finish. Participants will start together in this timed event. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

Immediately prior to the mass-start Score-O event, participants may compete in the fourth of the club's Sprint Championship Series. Points from this and five additional races held throughout the year will determine Sprint Series Champions in the fall. The best four results over the six races will count in the final tally.

Sprint and beginner (white) courses start at 10 a.m., and the mass-start Score-O will begin at 11 a.m. Score-O location difficulties will vary from simple to moderately complex, and competitors can expect a 60-minute outing.

Instruction leading to a beginner course (white) will be available, and walking such a course can be accomplished in under an hour. Groups and families welcome. Cost is $8 per entry, discounted for club members (groups count as one entry).

The club recommends walking shoes, long sleeves and nylon sweat pants if leaving the trail and a compass.
