Monroe County Legislator Vincent Esposito, D, Irondequoit, is resigning that elective office to join Governor Andrew Cuomo's team at Empire State Development (ESD).
In a letter to constituents late this afternoon, Esposito wrote that he has accepted a position within the administration of Governor Andrew Cuomo at ESD, the organization that oversees New York State's economic development initiatives.
In his new capacity, Esposito will be the Deputy Regional Director of the ESD Finger Lakes Regional Office in Rochester and will work closely with the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council to expand business opportunities and create jobs throughout the nine-county greater Rochester area.
"I am grateful to Governor Cuomo for this new opportunity to serve our community and excited to work full-time on transforming the Upstate economy with the talented team he has put in place at ESD under President and CEO Kenneth Adams," Esposito said in his statement.
He explained that the new role means he can no longer hold elective office.
"Therefore, I will be submitting my resignation as the Monroe County Legislator from (Irondequoit's) 16th District effective July 20," Esposito said.
Esposito, 36, was first elected to the County Legislature about four and a half years ago and was reelected this past November.
Besides serving as a County Legislator, he has been deputy chief of staff for state Assemblyman Joe Morelle. He and his wife, Jennifer Johnson of WHAM 13 news, have two daughters, Avery and Grace.
He belongs to Irondequoit Kiwanis.
"For the past four and a half years, it has been a true honor to represent the great people of Irondequoit. Words cannot express the appreciation I have for them and I hope they are proud of the way I served them," Esposito said in his statement this afternoon. "Rest assured, my commitment to our community remains as strong as ever, which is why I've decided to focus exclusively on what has always been my top priority: our shared economic future."
He also thanked his family, friends and supporters, "and dear friend and mentor," Assemblyman Joe Morelle.
