At WellBEING, a new health and fitness studio, owner Heather Whitenack and personal trainer, Steve Matthews believe in personalizing workouts.

Whitenack grew up in Pittsford, and graduated from Pittsford Sutherland High School in 2002, with a family of all sisters. Being one of many girls, there was always a concern about being healthy, being strong, and eating well.

Combining her healthy habits with a degree in business, Whitenack opened a fitness studio in Boston called Body By Design. Soon after having a baby boy, who is now 2 years old, she moved back to Pittsford to be with family and open WellBEING.

Whitenack and Matthews are partnered in the new business, but Matthews is also a personal trainer who offers a special perspective.

He has gone through a weight-loss journey on his own, losing over 50 pounds.

“Steve’s background of losing such a significant amount of weight really helps our clients who are coming from the same place,” Whitenack said.

There are many types of training offered at WellBEING including, one-on-one personal training, duet or trio training, small group fitness classes (Zumba, strength and boot camp), special event programs, in-home training, corporate training, and they have a nutritionist on hand.

“Our clients get that one-on-one attention and we build a lot of long-lasting relationships,” said Whitenack. At WellBEING, the instructors are try to accommodate  different fitness levels and give options for each exercise so each person can fully benefit  from their experience.

Whitenack and Matthews both, enjoy the rewarding feeling of seeing people making a positive change in their lives.

“Small little things such as completing a full push-up for the first time is something that some might take for granted, but that’s what I get the most satisfaction out of, is being in assistance to their goals,” Matthews said.

WellBEING will host a series of upcoming events (see sidebar).
