The 18th annual Rochester Irish Festival, held under a tent at Camp Eastman, 1301 Lake Shore Blvd., Irondequoit, gets under way at 3 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 7 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 9.
Admission, $8 per daty in advance; $10 per day at the door, or $20 for a weekend pass, remains the same as last year. Advance sale tickets are available at the Irish Import Shop at the Mall at Greece Ridge and Irish & Celtic Imports, Pittsford Plaza.
Festival times are 3 to 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, with opening ceremonies set for 6:30 p.m.; noon to 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8; and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, preceded by a Roman Catholic Mass at 10 a.m.
Headliners on opening night are The Mahones, an Irish rock and punk band from Canada that features Finny McConnell, guitar, vocals; Dom "The Bomb" Whelan, drums, vocals; Katie "Kaboom!" McConnell, accordion, vocals; Sean Winter, mandolin, banjo, vocals; and Paul "Cuzo" Mancuso, bass, vocals. The band traces its roots back about 23 years ago. They have released 10 CDs to date.
