Work by two local photographers has taken first-place in the statewide 2012 Erie Canalway photo contest.
"Fairport at Dawn" by photographer Keith Boas, of Fairport, took first place in the category Buildings, Bridges, and Locks. His photo "Jogging in a Snowstorm," taken in Bushnell's Basin, also placed first in its category.
Also taking first place was Pittsford photographer Gary Eisenhart's photo, "Lock 33 Sunset" in the On the Water category. Eisenhart's photo "Canal Duck Family" placed third in the Nature of the Canal category. Rochester native Stephen Drew also won honorable mention for his image of Albion.
“These outstanding images show us the beauty and character of the canal corridor and remind us of what makes it a unique place to celebrate and preserve,” stated Beth Sciumeca, Executive Director of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor.
Judges selected 12 winning photos from more than 400 entries. The 12 winning images will be featured in the 2013 Erie Canalway Calendar, which will become available at locations across New York State in December.
