Why you should attend
For the first time in its 32-year history, Homearama is featuring culinary demonstrations, wine and beer tastings and musical performances during its nine-day run. More than 25,000 people attend Homearama each year, to tour the newly constructed, fully decorated and landscaped homes, and the more than 50 exhibitors with a variety of products and services related to “home.” Craig Antonelli, chairman of the home builders’ association, explained:
“This year we took our mission of educating consumers and showcasing the quality of our region and expanded it to showcase (even more).”
Event highlights
1 Cooking demonstrations with the theme “summer grilling” are being presented by the Culinary Center at Vella and will feature chefs from eight locally owned and operated restaurants. For instance, Flaherty’s Three Flags Inn will be featured from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17. “While everything will be prepared on a grill, this is not burgers, by any means,” said Jeff Brown of Vella. Some will be sharing recipes that attendees can take home to recreate.
2 Area bands being featured during Homearama will also be performing for local charities of their choosing. For instance, Wild Horses, performing from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, has chosen Easter Seals of New York, which serves children, adults and families living with autism and other developmental disabilities or special needs.
3 Wine and beer tastings will be held throughout Homearama to demonstrate the variety of tastes being created in the greater Rochester and Finger Lakes regions. “We want Homearama visitors to have the opportunity to sample our wines so they can entertain their guests with one of New York’s finest wines,” said John Brahm, owner of Arbor Hill Grapery in Naples. Fox Run Vineyards will be featured from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, to get the tastings started.
