Close games are nothing new for the Rush-Henrietta and Brighton girls soccer teams. On Thursday, each team found themselves in familiar territory.

The Royal Comets and Barons played to an entertaining 1-1 tie in a non-league game at Rush-Henrietta. Brighton’s record now stands at 7-3-4 overall, while Rush-Henrietta moved to 4-5-4.

Along with recording four ties, the Royal Comets have played in eight one goal games this fall. The Barons have finished with four ties and four of their games have been decided by one goal.

Each team had plenty of possession in the first half of Thursday’s game but neither scored.

Sophomore midfielder Jennifer Moran scored to give R-H a 1-0 lead 5:04 into the second half. Moran was able to get around a Brighton defender and chip a shot over Baron goalkeeper Stephanie Ingalls.

Brighton responded though, taking control of the possession to get back into the game.

Emma Diehl drove towards the left side of the net, and sent a ball into the box that Hannah Wadsworth headed into the back of the net to tie game with 16:52 remaining. Wadsworth leads the Barons with 11 goals on the season.

The Royal Comets had two excellent chances to win the game in regulation but could not convert. The best came with just under nine minutes remaining as Ingalls denied Nenetzin Allen-Caballero on a breakaway.

R-H goalkeeper Nicki Turley answered in the first overtime, stopping a pair of outstanding chances in the first five minutes. Ingalls blocked back-to-back chances by Moran and Carley Zoccali early in the third overtime in the best scoring opportunity for either team over the 10-minute session.

The Royal Comets are back in action at 4:30 p.m. Monday when they host Livonia, while Brighton plays at Pittsford Sutherland at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
