Hayley Higgins scored twice in the second half to lead the Pittsford Mendon girls soccer team to a 2-0 win over Pittsford Sutherland in a Monroe County Division II matchup Tuesday at Mendon.
The Vikings improved to 3-1, and moved into first place alone in Division II with a 2-0 mark. The Knights dropped to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the division.
Higgins gave Mendon a lead they would not relinquish when she fired a shot from the top of the box past a diving Mackenzie Moranz in the 45th minute. Viking senior defender Christina Fluman was credited with an assist.
Higgins put the game away when she knocked in a low shot under Moranz in the 71st minute. Mendon junior midfielder Maddie Ferris earned the only assist.
Miranda Stowe recorded the win in goal for the Vikings, registering five saves. Mendon has allowed only one goal in four games this season, and has shut out their last three opponents.
Sutherland is back in action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Brighton, while the Vikings play at 7 p.m. Thursday at Canandaigua.
