A Pittsford man was fined and sentenced yesterday to probation after he was convicted by a federal jury of six counts of making false statements to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Dennis M. Capriotti, 54, received five years of probation and was fined $3,000 by U.S. District Judge David G. Larimer. Capriotti also was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $46,379.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa J. Miller, who handled the case, said Capriotti submitted four false forms to the Labor Department between 2005 and 2007 involving compensation benefits.
As a result, Capriotti, a retired United States Postal Service employee, received disability benefits from the Office of Worker's Compensation Programs, Miller said.
The defendant claimed that he was not engaged in any activities outside of his employment with the United States Postal Service, but he was operating a snow-plowing business, Miller said.
