A 3-year-old boy involved in a jet ski crash yesterday has died, the Ontario County sheriff’s office announced a short time ago.
Samuel Pierson, 3, of Fairport, died of his injuries at approximately 10:07 p.m. Wednesday at Strong Memorial Hospital, deputies said.
His mother, Kerry Pierson, 37, was listed in guarded condition this morning at the hospital.
An initial investigation into the crash found no signs that alcohol or medication contributed to the crash, but deputies are still investigating the crash and plan to speak to Pierson when her condition improves.
Rescue crews responded to the Thorndale Beach area at 1:39 p.m. after reports of the crash.
Deputies said the mother was driving the craft, which witnesses said sped up as it approached the shore and crashed into a concrete breakwall. Witnesses said she flew off the craft and into the yard after impact.
Canandaigua Ambulance and Crystal Beach rescue crews initially provided treatment at the scene.
Both victims were flown by Mercy Flight Center helicopters to Strong.
