The Cooper-Titus corridor in Irondequoit is alive with art, thanks to the efforts of a citizens group, HIPP — Helping Irondequoit Plan for Progress — talented area artists, local businesses and the community.
The community can celebrate local art at two, free artists' receptions this weekend.
First, an artist reception for the second annual Irondequoit Art Show, showcasing Irondequoit artists, is from 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 14, at the I-Square Visions Art Gallery, 693 Titus Ave. A total of 26 Irondequoit artists and more than 40 artworks is featured in the show which opened Sept. 10 and continues to Oct. 4.
Then, on Saturday night, join artist Courtney Gruttadauria, who also happens to be co-curator of the I-Square gallery with Irondequoit artist Zanne Brunner, at a celebration of public art from 6 to 8 p.m. at the northeast corner of Cooper Road and Titus Avenue. Refreshments will be served in the nearby, upcoming "Titus Tavern" space at the same corner.
Gruttadauria recently completed repainting the silver electrical box at the corner, and the artwork reflects Irondequoit geography and history.
The silver box project was made possible with funds from the decentralization program, a grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts administered by the Arts and Cultural Council for Greater Rochester.
Look for more details on the artist and the artwork she created in next week's print edition of the Irondequoit Post.
