It was the first time the Brighton Fire District brought boots to the streets streets since 2010, and they raised $7,351 to help "spread smiles" for children and adults affected by neuromuscular disease.

The funds were raised by generous motorists in the Brighton area during a one day- two shift program to benefit the Greater Rochester Muscular Dystrophy Association.

On Sept. 28 the Brighton Community and traffic going through Brighton were asked to “Fill the Boot for MDA” by dropping a cash donation into the fireman’s boot as they stood and waited at the Twelve Corners intersection while the light was red.

A specially created Firefighter sticker with fire safety tips was given to the donors as a thank you for their contribution and to bring further awareness to the campaign.

“The Brighton Fire District and the Brighton Community went above and beyond this Fill the Boot season and put some extra 'muscle' in their campaign which made it an amazing success that will help MDA families in the Greater Rochester Area,” said MDA Executive Director, Sally A. Cramer, “the Brighton Fill the Boot Campaign helped raise funds in a powerful and meaningful way. We are grateful to the Brighton Fire District members and loyal community for showing their support and helping families fighting muscle disease."

For more than 50 years MDA has partnered with firefighters nationwide for the Fill the Boot campaign. Funds raised will support MDA's programs of research and health care services, including MDA summer camp at the Rochester Rotary Sunshine Campus in Rush NY.
