Business First's this morning released it's second annual academic rankings of 430 Upstate New York school districts, and Pittsford has once again come out on top.
Brighton comes in at no. 3.
Business First analyzed a wide array of test data compiled by the New York
State Education Department. Each district's rank reflects the collective
performance of its elementary, middle and high schools from 2008 to 2011,
the most recent four-year period for which comprehensive statistics are
available.
The rating formula devised by Business First has 192 components, ranging
from English and math tests for third graders up to the full complement of
Regents exams for high schoolers.
Pittsford emerged as Upstate's No. 1 school system because of its broad
range of academic accomplishments.
Its test scores in three fields (English/foreign languages, science and social studies) are the best in the entire region, according to Business First's breakdown of 2008-2011 data. Pittsford ranks second in math, trailing only Fayetteville-Manlius.Seventy-nine percent of Pittsford's graduates earned Regents diplomas with advanced designations in 2011, the latest year for which statewide figures are available. That's the highest rate in the region, 36 points above the Upstate average of 43 percent.
