This is the third year Fairport will be filled with the sights and sounds of Germany for Oktoberfest, just in time for German Heritage Day on Saturday.
This year’s festival will include an extra day with more opportunities for food, music, and entertainment.
Also premiering is a Lutheran church service that will be spoken in German on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. The service will be held under the tent at the village’s festival site at Fairport Junction. It will include traditional hymns and readings given by members of Reformation Lutheran Church, in Rochester.
“With our rich German heritage here in the area, I think people will be drawn to having the experience of worshiping God in a very traditional setting,” said Pastor Paula Roulette, of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, who pointed out that Germany is the birthplace of Martin Luther himself. “This is a pretty authentic.”
No German festival would be complete without specialty beers and fresh traditional food including sauerkraut, sausage, bratwurst and more.
Live music attractions during the three-day festival will feature a combination of jolly alphorn and accordion tunes as well as the Fairport Fire Department Band, Perinton Concert Band, and a performance by the RIT Pep Band.
Event coordinator and executive director of the Fairport Partnership for a Better Community, Scott Winner, said the lineup offers a little something for everyone, from the Dave Matthews tribute band, Big Eyed Fish, and local sensations, Jumbo Shrimp.
“This is going to be an incredibly energetic lineup,” said Winner. “We’re hoping to appeal to a broad base of individuals.”
