A woman from Interlaken, Seneca County, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, Aug. 31, after a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Route 96 and County Road 6 in Phelps, said Ontario County sheriff’s deputies.
According to police, April R. Campbell, 29, of Interlaken, was driving west on Route 96 when another vehicle — described as possibly a white Chevrolet Trailblazer — pulled out in front of her from County Road 6, causing a minor collision. After the crash, Campbell’s vehicle exited the north side of Route 96 and struck a utility pole. She complained of chest and back pain, and was transported to Strong by the Phelps Ambulance. She was later discharged from the hospital.
Campbell’s eight-year-old and four-old-daughters were also in the vehicle at the time. Police said the eight-year was also taken to Strong, and the four-year-old was uninjured.
Route 96 — between County Road 6 and Lester Road — was closed for about 90 minutes, following the crash.
The Phelps and Oaks Corners Fire Departments assisted at the scene.
The man that allegedly hit Campbell’s vehicle is described as an older man, in his 70s, with white hair, about 6-feet tall, a thin build, and wearing glasses. Deputies are asking that anyone with information on the vehicle or driver, call the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office at (585) 394-4560.
