Rochester General Hospital is making some changes to its nursing department.
The hospital is moving its licensed practical nurses (LPNs) to out-patient assignments in favor of registered nurses (RNs). RGH officials saud the move is part of a national trend, and that no LPNs will be laid off.
They said the move impacts about 40 LPNs at the hospital and approximately five at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. Those LPNs who are currently studying to become an RN will be allowed to remain in their current position if their degree is completed by 2014.
Hospital officials said they are working with the other LPNs about options for attending school and/or reassigning them.
