New York state police will be stationed on highway bridges and overpasses in addition to their normal patrols this Halloween to discourage holiday pranksters.
This initiative, "Pumpkin Patrol," is in its 36th year and is aimed at preventing Halloween pranks and protecting motorists along the New York State Thruway. The patrols will take place on both Oct. 30 and 31.
Citizen volunteers will also be assisting the state police. According to the Thruway Authority, more than 300 people from 19 counties have volunteered to participate in this year’s efforts.
State police will also keep watch for other violations including speeding, driving while intoxicated and aggressive driving.
