A Canandaigua man was sent to the F.F. Thompson Hospital just after 9 a.m., Aug. 30, after he was ejected from his moped on Route 21 in Hopewell, said Ontario County sheriff’s deputies.
Frederick Salvagni, 57, was heading north when he left the shoulder of the road and went into a ditch, police said. When the moped skidded on its side, Salvagni was ejected, deputies added.
According to police, the cause of the crash was driver inattention and improper lane usage — Salvagni didn’t realize that the wide shoulder of the highway ended, causing him to skid off the road.
He suffered facial lacerations and was transported to the hospital by the Shortsville Ambulance. Members of the Finger Lakes Ambulance also responded to the scene.
He was wearing a helmet, police said.
