Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks was briefed this morning by public safety and partnering agencies on the extent of damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. No injuries or fatalities have been reported in our area.
Although there was no significant flooding associated with this weather event, high winds coupled with driving rain have caused more than 20,000 residents to be without power this morning.
A County-wide State of Emergency remains in effect for all Monroe County towns and villages, including the City of Rochester until further notice.
Residents are asked to take precaution when surveying damage to property.
A mandatory evacuation of select lakeshore residents remains in effect until the damage assessment teams can survey those areas and deem them safe. Residents are advised to use extreme caution when navigating roads and highways and are encouraged to allow extra time to reach their destinations.
Monroe County Executive Brooks is also announcing that all Monroe County Parks, including the Seneca Park Zoo will be closed on Tuesday, Oct. 30 to allow for county staff to assess any damage to the parks before they are reopened to the public.
Additionally, the following roads have been closed until crews can clear debris and/or downed power lines:
· Stone Road, Greece between Castleford Road and Willis Avenue
· Latta Road, Greece between Silver Fox Circle and Castle Creek
· 5 Mile Line Road, Penfield, between Whalen Road and Route 286
· Lake Road, Webster between Pellet Road and Baker Road
· Holt Road, Webster between Nestwood Lane and Shoemaker Road
· East Avenue, Sweden, between Anitas Lane and Sweden Walker Road
