Earlier today, Webster Police Investigator Gretchen O'Dea said, a local TV station received a tip regarding the guitar's location. The Webster Police Department was notified and responded to that location to investigate. The owner has identified the guitar.
The guitar is currently in the possession of the Webster Police Department, O'Dea said, and police will be holding it as evidence until further notice.
"We will continue to follow leads in this case," O'Dea said, adding, "We are unable to comment further about the status of the investigation."
Webster Police are still encouraging anyone who has information about the burglary to contact them at 872-1216.
The burglary occurred overnight between Feb. 5 and 6 at Webster’s United Methodist Church, 169 E. Main St., in the village.
According to a press release issued yesterday by O’Dea, the interior of the church “sustained a substantial amount of damage during the crime.”Numerous items were stolen from the church, including the Ovation six-string acoustic and electric guitar, model 1778 LX Elite. The guitar, in particular, had “a tremendous amount of sentimental value to its owner,” who is one of the church’s pastors, O’Dea said. She explained that the owner’s mother gave him the guitar shortly before she passed away.
The United Methodist Church offered a reward — $500 cash or an iPad II — for the safe return of the guitar, or information leading to its safe return.
