Hochstein School of Music and Dance, 50 N. Plymouth Ave., Rochester, will host a series of free concerts in June to showcase scholarship winners and student groups.
The 2017 Honors Convocation at 7 p.m. June 2 in Hochstein Performance Hall will showcase 14 Merit Scholarship winners and honors certificate program graduates. Students in grades 5-12 will perform music by Felix Mendelssohn, Johannes Brahms, Mozart and Georg Bohm.
“Spring Concert of Young Voices” will feature Hochstein Singers, Youth Singers and Little Singers at 3 p.m. June 3 in Hochstein Performance Hall. The program directed by Grace Adams and Maryellen Geise will include “My Favorite Things” from “The Sound of Music”; settings of choral works by Antonio Vivaldi; folk songs from Spain, Scotland and Newfoundland; and “On Children” with words by Kahlil Gibran and music by Ysaye Barnwell, of Sweet Honey in the Rock.
“Spring Dance Gala and Storybook Theater” will celebrate the dance department at 2:30 p.m. June 10 in Hochstein Performance Hall. Children’s classes will perform selections from “Carnival of the Animals.” The showcase will include works from “Oklahoma!,” “Giselle” and “Graduation Ball.”
HochStrings Adult Chamber Orchestra, directed by Pia Liptak, will perform string music by Vivaldi, Mozart, Gabriel Pierne, Gershwin, Arthur Foote, Gustav Holst and Vaughan Williams in “HochStrings: Seasons, Serenades and Favorite Selections” at 5:45 p.m. June 16 in Hochstein Chapel.
