Re: “Long, triple jump story could have used better research” (Feb. 1), Mr. Paul Murphy’s letter to the editor regarding George Beadle’s article on the Palmyra-Macedon track and field team.
I would like to absolve Mr. Beadle of any careless reporting. As the head coach of the Palmyra-Macedon track and field team, I supply the statistics and background knowledge to Mr. Beadle for his articles on the track and field program. Thus, it was my misleading information that Mr. Beadle included in his article on Jan. 25. Mr. Murphy is correct in that the current Pal-Mac long and triple jumpers did not jump the best jumps in school history, but instead became the best jumpers in the history of the program with their recent performances — a matter of mere semantics.
Mr. Beadle tirelessly works to report on the sports programs at Palmyra-Macedon. The community greatly appreciates his publicity of our local student-athletes. In fact, I know of one family that purchased an extra eight copies of the Wayne Post as a result of Mr. Beadle’s article in question.
In order to provide these articles, Mr. Beadle relies on the information provided from coaches, as we are the only ones with access to this information. Mr. Beadle did indeed do his “research,” and his credibility should not be questioned based on information I provided him.
