LETTER: I-Square is no Medley Centre

I’m tired of the I-Square/Medley Centre comparisons. They are two entirely different projects!

Mike and Wendy Nolan are town residents willing to invest their life savings in OUR town. Mike is a successful business owner with a proven track record of success and business leadership. His company has made the Top 100 business numerous times. Just recently The Rochester Business Journal identified him as a finalist for the Rochester Business Person of the Year. If he is telling us that I-Square is not financially possible with the 10-year PILOT, then I believe him. With the large investment he and Wendy have already put into this project, if what the Town Board proposed made sense they would move forward. Let’s face it, he had successes and knows what it takes. The Town Board needs to listen to them and stop shutting down the lines of communication. The most offensive example of this being the “special” meeting held recently. Their approach is at best a disservice to the town.

I’ve lived here most of my life and remember when it was at its best. We just want our town to be a place we can be proud of. A place people want to visit and don’t want to leave. All the talk of cost to the town and taxpayers is NOT an issue and is NOT a justifiable reason to squash this project. If I-Square stalls out we’ll have what we had — nothing! I-Square will cost the taxpayers no additional taxes. All Mike and Wendy are asking for is the necessary tax relief to make this possible. We have so much to gain if this project succeeds and a lot to lose without it.

Board members: I-Square, Medley Centre? I’ll take I-Square any day!
