LETTER: Slaughter actually strengthens Medicare

I was discouraged and disappointed by the letter  which wrongly accused Congresswoman Louise Slaughter of hurting Medicare. On the contrary, Louise helped strengthen and extend the life of this program while expanding health care access and improving quality for millions of seniors! The $716 billion savings in the health care bill — endorsed by the AARP — are reductions in overpayments to insurance companies. The savings cut down on waste and inefficiency and add eight years to the life of Medicare.

By helping pass the bill, Louise protected the promise of Medicare for at least another decade of American retirees. For that, she has earned my applause and my support.
