I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to all who participated in the blood drive on Tuesday, July 13, at the Canandaigua Inn on the Lake. The American Red Cross reports that the blood drive exceeded the blood drive goals, with over 40 units of blood and 23 bags of double red cells donated. Double red cell donations are especially critical for blood transfusions.
Although many of us are busy with our summer activities, I am grateful that local families took time out to help us give the “gift of life.” According to the American Red Cross, there is a constant need for blood, especially during the summer months, when blood donations can decline as much as 10 percent to 15 percent. Although 60 percent of Americans are eligible to donate blood, only 5 percent do so.
