Pittsford’s Matthew Wilmarth, a first grader at Mendon Center Elementary School, served as the “Play Ball Kid" at the Red Wings’ Aug. 9 matchup with the Empire State Yankees.

The six-year-old got the game underway by yelling “play ball” to the Frontier Field crowd just prior to the first pitch of the ballgame.

Wilmarth’s favorite Red Wing is pitcher Bobby Lanigan.
