Pittsford’s Tim Hortons AA team, made up of nine and 10-year-olds, earned an impressive season record of 12-2-1, finishing the season on a 9-0-1 undefeated tear and scoring 171 runs.
In the championship game against Pittsford's Dick Ide Honda, pitchers Kevin Randolph and Brecken McGeough turned in excellent performances, and every one of the 12 Hortons players either drove in or scored a run.
As Tim Hortons clawed back from an 11-5 deficit, the last inning demonstrated true teamwork toward the win. After McGeough set down Dick Ide 1-2-3 for the second consecutive inning, Devon Tantalo led off the bottom of the sixth with a hard-hit grounder through the shortstop's legs, and Sam Reeder worked a walk.
With one out and two strikes, Lucas Simonetti knocked a ball down the first-base line. Tantalo scored from third and the game was tied with just one out, meaning a ground ball would likely win the game. Ryan Mogauro provided it, hitting the ball down the third base line as Reeder raced home to score the winning run.
Tim Hortons was led by manager Dan Luther and assistant coaches Tim Reeder, Bernie Hurwitz and Chris Randolph. Dick Ide, who finished 9-7, was led by manager Rick Damico and assistant coach Steve Salvaggio.
