The Red Raiders and Panthers entered the final game with identical 2-0 records. The game started with the underclassmen contesting a close quarter Pittsford opened the scoring with Chris Evans following a shot that hit the cross bar.
Fairport then tied it up 1-1, before Alex McPherson made it 2-1 following a good passing exchange with Casey Ransford.
In the second quarter the Red Raider upperclassmen quickly got into their rhythm and David Howard launched a shot that crashed in off the cross bar to tie it up 2-2. Pittsford upper class men rallied and passed it around, controlling possession before Vince Criscuolo scored, with his trademark backhand shot.
The Panthers continued to press and contest every ball, Shea Ransford scored to leave Pittsford 4-2 up at the half. The fans were raucous and there many alumni from both schools in the crowd cheering on their teams in the closely contested game.
The two goalkeepers, Nathaniel Topham and Sam Randall, knew they would be under pressure in the second half and  they stopped a number of shots at critical moments in the game.
The second half opened with the two teams looking for openings to shoot. The Panthers hit the mark first with Jesse Bennett on a break away, Fairport came back quickly to make it 5-3 entering the final quarter.
As the upper class men jumped into the pool for the final quarter there was a cacophony of noise as the fans urged on their teams. The teams traded fouls and possessions as the plays became frenetic. Pittsford struck first with goals from PJ Ransford and Chris McPherson, but Fairport got a goal back to keep their hopes alive at 7-5.
Pittsford used quick counter attacks to stretch the Fairport defense and create open shots. Matt Tanchick and Chris McPherson both scored to extend the lead to 9-5. Fairport and Pittsford exchanged goals to close out the game 10-6.
At the end both teams shook hands knowing that they had extended a long run tradition and helped to donate $1,170, including $365 in team donations, to the American Diabetes Association specifically to help send diabetic children to summer camps. The tournament was first held in 1973 by Pittsford’s first swim coach, Fred Rockow.
Prior to the finale Hilton had beaten Gates-Chili in a great match to claim third place in the tournament.
At the end of the tournament Fairport Raiders coach Ryan Callan remarked “this is something we always look forward to after Thanksgiving. It is for a good cause - Diabetes. It is a great start to the season and we enjoy it every year.”
Page 2 of 2 - Pittsford Panthers coach Mark Morris added “it was another well contested tournament. We only had seven days to practice this year, but it was still very competitive. This is the 39th year of the tournament.”
Prior to the finale Coach Morris thanked all of the teams, fans, players, volunteers and officials for a successful day. Match volunteer officials were from the Rochester Senior Men’s water polo team - Seth Sealfon, Dr. Stefan Lucas and Aram Salehi.
