  • Monroe County is partnering with Waste Management of New York, The Child Care Council Inc. and Cascades Recovery to sponsor a one-day collection event for residents to recycle expired or unwanted child car seats on Saturday, June 2, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Monroe County ecopark facility located at 10 Avion Drive in Chili.
Plastic car seats are not designed to last more than five years. Plastic turns brittle and cracks, buckles become more difficult to close properly and fabric belts stretch.
Cascades Recovery will be removing expired car seats from circulation by recycling them into new products such as plastic lumber. The Child Care Council, Inc. will be assisting at the event and educating families and member organizations about the importance of car seat recycling. All cloth material, including straps, should be removed from the car seat prior to being dropped-off. Cascades Recovery will recycle the car seats and any remaining metal and plastic buckles.
