  • Funeral arrangements for Molly Thomas, a Pittsford Mendon High School sophomore who died last Friday, have been confirmed.
Calling hours are 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Anthony Funeral Home, 2305 Monroe Ave.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, at Church of the Transfiguration, 50 W. Bloomfield Road, Pittsford.
Jason DeJoy, Mendon varsity track coach, said in a statement released by the school district that Molly was a very positive contributor to the Mendon cross-country and track teams and a model student-athlete and citizen who had excellent grades in school. She was also a very dedicated and passionate runner, he said.
“She led by example and was very well-liked,” DeJoy said. “I know she also volunteered in the community and was a person who thought of those who are less fortunate. She was planning on cleaning up and fixing up homes in Rochester city neighborhoods through the Flower City Work Camp over spring break as her older sister did. You'll be hard-pressed to find a better kid."
“She was loved by all her teammates and coaches and will be dearly missed,” DeJoy said. “I feel fortunate to have been able to coach her.”
Counselors and other staff were scheduled to be available Monday morning.
No other details about what happened were given, but the district posted this:
“As is always our recommendation, if you have concerns about your child’s health please call your pediatrician. We don’t have any information that indicates that you should be alarmed. We understand that parents may have questions. Please be assured that the School District has been in close contact with the family and medical professionals as part of our normal procedure in these situations.”
