Students who worked for "Crossroads," "Trapezoid," and "Galaxy" were recognized throughout New York for their work.
Three Brighton High School publications earned top honors in several categories from the Empire State School Press Association.
“Crossroads,” the yearbook, “Trapezoid,” the newspaper and “Galaxy,” the art and literary magazine, were recognized at Syracuse University last month. Forty-six students and their faculty advisers attended the conference, workshops, and awards presentations.
All awards were for the 2009-10 school year.
Trapezoid earned Gold Awards for New York’s Best Newspaper and Best Online Publication. Gold awards were earned by Jesse Ellis-Wexler in the Columnist category; Adelaide Palum for Photography (Portfolio); the Trapezoid staff for Use of Advertising; Sandrine Uwimana in Entertainment/Review; and Suzanne Wu for Cartoon/Illustration/Graphic.
Silver awards were earned by Nabiha Ahsan and Ann Wang for Layout and Typography; Hanna Edizel for Cartoon/Illustration/Graphic; Stanford Schor and Divya Seth for Layout and Typography’ and Suzanne Wu for Editorial Cartoon.
Bronze awards were earned by Carrie Bartlett in the News Story category; Natasha Boghani for Portrait and Feature Photography; and Mohini Sharma for Feature Story.
Honorable Mentions went to Nabiha Ahsan for Special Topic/Event Coverage; Michael Liu for Sports Column; Adelaide Palum for News Photograph; and Sonia Ureles for Cartoon/Illustration/Graphic.

Galaxy won Gold for overall magazine.
Gold awards went to Rory Gillett for Artwork/Illustration; Pauline Schwartzman for Layout; and Suzanne Wu for Artwork/Illustration.
Silver Awards went to Nabiha Ahsan for Artwork/Illustration; Darrian Amaker for Photography; Olivia Hillery for Photography; Leah Samson for Photography; Pauline Schwartzman for Layout; Amanda Stearns for Cover Design; Kayla Woodlock for Fiction; Rebecca Zaretsky for Layout; and Alban Zohn for Cover Design.
Bronze Awards were earned by Rory Gillett for Photography; Channing Kaiser for Poetry; Austin Retzlaff for Poetry; and Rebecca Zaretsky for Layout.

Crossroads received a Gold Award for Best Overall Yearbook in New York.
Gold awards were also earned by the Crossroads staff in the categories of Academics Spread, Sports, and Theme Presentation.
Crossroads received Silver awards in Advertising, Cover/Endsheet, Divider Pages, Sports Section, Student Life (Activities), and Special Topic Coverage.
Crossroads earned a Bronze in the Club/Organization Section category. Honorable Mentions were earned in the categories of Advertising and Student Life (Activities).
