Brighton graduate Harrison Goldberg is having an outstanding early season with the Hobart rowing team.

Goldberg played a key part in the Statesmen’s win over RIT last weekend. Hobart on the water for a second straight day dominated RIT on the Seneca-Cayuga Canal.

The Statesmen won all four races against the Tigers after splitting eight races at Ithaca last Saturday. Goldberg was part of Hobart’s second varsity eight boat that had the tightest race of the day.

Goldberg, Richard Mable, Francis Craig, Dillon Nachbar (Pittsford), David Grossman, Ryan Scully, Gerry Samson, Eddie Crocket, and Bob Taylor traded the lead back and forth with RIT through the first half of the race, but the Statesmen turned in a strong final 1,000 meters to top the Tigers 7:09.08 to 7:13.7.

One day earlier, The Hobart varsity eight regained the Statesman Trophy with a head-to-head win over Ithaca on the first day of the spring racing season. The result highlighted a full day of match racing.

Hobart’s second varsity eight— Goldberg, Mable, Craig, Nachbar, Grossman, Scully, Samson, Crocket, and Taylor—raced the Michigan novice eight entry in the morning. The Statesmen lead most of the race until the Wolverines rallied with a sprint and went by Hobart with 100 meters to go. Michigan crossed the line in 6:24.8, 1.1 seconds ahead of the Statesmen.

Goldberg is in his senior season with the Statesmen. He has been a rower on the team the last four years.
